TIMEOUT

TIMEOUT III - LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA, USA

Born in the 1890’s the US auto industry grew to a point where by the 2010 there were over a 250m registered vehicles. Despite urgent calls for a reduction in fossil fuel use the US has only increased car fuel economy by registering the SUV class of vehicles as a light truck. Despite being predominantly a consumer interaction motor vehicle use is framed in terms of freedom of movement. However, it directly challenges our ability to control our consumption of finite resources, which, in turn, limits the human freedoms of the future.
