At the turn of the 21st century China’s bao fa hu, the suddenly wealthy, became the driving force of a massive urban property expansion. Shanghai’s population growth of 37.53% in the last decade, including 9 million long-term migrants, has transformed the city. In less than a generation the rural rice fields and villages of Pudong have gone to be replaced by communities in the sky.  Edition of 7.
